Try out the quick & easy chicken pies.

3/4 cup of milk
4 tsp flour
1/4 tsp pepper
1 (10.75 oz.) can condensed minestrone soup
2 cup cooked chicken, cubed
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, cubed
1 (5 ct.) pkg. refrigerated country style biscuits
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Pour the milk into a jar with a tight fitting screw top lid. Add the flour and pepper to the milk. Place the lid on the jar and shake until all the ingredients are combined. Place the soup into a saucepan and place over medium heat.
Pour the milk mixture into the soup.
Cook the mixture stirring constantly until thick and bubbly. Stir the cooked & cubed chicken into the milk & soup mixture. Add the cream cheese and cook, stirring often, until the cheese has melted. Pour the mixture into 4 (or more) ungreased 10 oz. baking cups. Separate the biscuits and cut each biscuit into 5 pieces. Place 5 pieces on top of each baking cup. Place the cups in the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until golden on top.

Makes 4 servings

Turkey may be substituted for the chicken if you wish. Serve with a salad or a side of your favorite vegetables. Enjoy!

Have a great day!

Mar 11, Italian Chicken and Pea Soup Recipe

2 (14 oz.) cans chicken broth
1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp. minced garlic
Boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cooked & cubed
3/4 Cup small shell macaroni
3/4 Cup frozen peas
1/4 Cup green onions, chopped fine (optional)
Cook chicken in saucepan, drain, let it cook & cube chicken up. Pour the chicken broth into crockpot. Add the Italian seasoning, cubed chicken and garlic. Cover and cook on low all day. I like to cook my macaroni in the saucepan and then add it to the crockpot a few minutes before serving, that way its not mushy. Or if you want you can add the uncooked macaroni to the chicken broth mixture a couple hours before serving and let it cook that way. Stir in the peas and green onions about 1 hour before serving.

Enjoy this soup with a side salad and toasted garlic bread.

Have a great day!

Mar 9, Kitchen Staples that Help Save Money - #2

Ever wonder how our parents and grandparents always seemed to have food on the table even in lean times? While we visit the grocery store every week and spend more than we have, what was our ancestors secret? Well, it wasnt a secret at all. It was actually good planning and preparation on their part. Once we realize this and begin doing as they did, we too will see our dollar stretch further. Here are more staples to keep on hand.

3.	Pasta. There are many different pasta choices and all have great uses. Manicotti can be stuffed with tomato sauce and cheeses. Macaroni can be used to make a creamy salad and also is great combined with cheese or spaghetti sauce. Spiral pasta is used in many different pasta salads. Spaghetti can be used in a casserole topped with cheese or in the traditional way with tomato sauce and meat. Another favorite of our family during the holidays was spaghetti pie, I forgot all about that one. Ill find the recipe and put a link to it here in the near future.

Spices. There are other ways to season food besides salt and pepper. In fact, many spices taste better than salt. Even diehard salt-a-holics wont miss the salt in foods if other seasonings are used. Cayenne pepper, chili powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, oregano, and garlic powder are all useful tools in your flavor arsenal to give foods a fresh new taste. And remember check the dollar store for great savings on spices, very few do you need to buy the name brand. Want more ideas for using those spices check out the gift jar recipes pages.

Beans. There go those beans again. Beans can top your salad (edamame), make an awesome dip (black beans), and go well with grilled foods (baked beans). They provide a good source of protein with very little fat. Beans are good in soups, stews, and over rice for a simple yet filling meal. We like to use left over roast or some ham in our beans and when making a recipe like this a little meat goes a long ways. Check out the crockpot recipe pages for some beans recipes.

Have a great day!

Mar 8, Kitchen Staples that Help Save Money - #1

The staples that we have on hand are what determine how far our food will go. Filling your cabinets or pantry with a few useful staples can be the difference between a trip to the grocery store each and every week versus once or twice a month. Stocking just a few choice items is all you need to create wonderful meals. Here are just a few of the staples you keep stocked in your pantry.

1. Flour. Flour is a starter item for many recipes. You can add it to some water and make gravy for many meat dishes. Flour is also used to make bread (biscuits, rolls, loaves), just imagine the smell of fresh bread baking. And with that wonderful gadget the bread maker you can make just about any dough. Like the crockpot you can set it up in the morning and have fresh bread when you get home. Flour is also used to coat chicken. It can also be used to coat cake pans to prevent your cake from sticking. Of course, one of the favorite uses for flour is in cookie recipes and piecrusts that make scrumptious desserts.

2. Rice. Rice is a side dish, but it doesnt have to be plain. It can be jazzed up with veggies to accompany dinner. How about using the leftover rice for a dessert called sweet rice. Just add evaporated milk and some sugar to a bowl of rice and warm it in the microwave. It is a tasty treat for after dinner. Or for breakfast I like to cook plain white rice and add brown sugar and milk for a cereal, mmm mmm good. Another popular dessert is rice pudding. Rice can also be mixed with leftover meat and a cream soup to form a casserole or how about an old favorite chicken & rice. Rice has many uses and youre sure to find a few that your family will love.

(more next time)

Have a Great Day!
Mar 5, Too Good A Deal To Pass Up!

I got a chance to go in and check out My Parent Rewards, so what do i think? I think it's a great deal, and depending on what you use it on it will pay for itself with in the first couple purchases. I live in a small urban town, so I found many 2 for 1 coupons for eating out, of course most were for fast food joints and pizza. but when I extended the area to include a couple larger cities there were some nice restaurants included.

I wasn't real impressed with the shopping portion as most of the deals there were not anything i would use, but again in a larger city there might be a lot more. In this area I found savings for paint, oil changes, game stores, Sears and more, but again that was just for my area.

In the play section, which was pretty cool, there were lots of coupons for saving money. Of course some were buy one get one free, others were a savings of either a dollar amount off or a percentage savings. This is a great section if like to bowl, skate, go to the arcade and much more.

Then there's a grocery section for printing out grocery coupons, a services section that has deals like $0 enrollment fee at a local gym, or savings on beauty supplies and much more. There's an online section that you can check and see if someplace your shopping online has a coupons to use, like for free shipping. There's even a golf section if you're a golfer to save money.

So as you can see there are many ways to save with My Parents Rewards. I don't think I even mentioned all the sections you can save with. Another great feature they have is you can create your own coupon book with all the coupons you know you'll use. Planning a vacation, put together a vacation coupon book. Pretty cool feature. I am pretty impressed with this site. I know I will use it not only for around home, but also when we go out of town whether for vacations or business. Go check them out, I think you will like them too. 2-For-1 Discounts, up to 50 OFF at over 100,000 locations with your $20 My Parent Rewards Card!.
Mar 4, Don't Save Money Just On Things You Buy - Save On Your Time Too

The other day I was driving home from work, and was thinking, do I really want to spend $15 a month on a program I need for my websites? Do I really need it? I can do the same thing without it. But the more I thought about it, something finally clicked (even though I've heard it before), yes I could do it myself, but how many hours in that month would it take me to put the same thing or something similar together? 10 - 20 -30 hours or more? Yes, definitely and possibly more of my time, so how much would that be in hourly wages? Hmmmm, quite a bit, more than I want to think about. I should be saving money on my time also, $15 a month is the cost of hour of my time, so yes $15 is worth it, now I have saved 9 -29 hours of my time, that I can spend on something else. So next time you look at something that will help you save time & money, whether your considering that how to e-book on how to start a work at home job or need something to help make your work at home job run smoother, or perhaps some other monthly payment program, ask your self if your time really worth the cost, I think you'll decide like me that --- Saving Time is Saving Money!

Have a great day!

Mar 3, Crockpot Chicken Recipe

I haven't had a chance to try this out yet, but it looks so good, I decided to go ahead and share it. I hope you enjoy it.

3 T cooking oil
4 large boneless chicken breasts
1 (19 oz) can of enchilada sauce
2 (11 oz) cans cream of chicken soup
1 (4.25 oz) small can black olives, sliced
2 dozen corn tortillas
1 large onion, chopped up
1 (8 oz) pkg. taco style cheese or of course grate your own
In a large skillet over medium heat and add the oil. Once the oil is heated add the chicken. Cook chicken for about 5 minutes each side. Remove chicken and let it cool. Once the chicken has cooled, shred it. Cut the tortillas into 8 wedges per tortilla. In a large bowl combine the soup, olives and onions. In your crockpot begin layering in the with the enchilada sauce on the bottom. Then add the tortillas, soup, chicken and the cheese in that order. Continue layering in that order to the top being sure to end with the cheese. Cover and cook on low for 7 hours. Enjoy!

Tip: Serve this in a bowl and top with sour cream or guacamole if desired. This would also be a great recipe to use left over chicken in. Enjoy!

Have a great day!

Shop at the same stores. This is more of a frustration reliever. In a new store, you spend most of your time looking for things and walking up and down every aisle, which often means forgetting an item or two or buying something you really didn't need. Sometimes it's just not worth the time to go to a new store to save a few cents. Going to the same one or two stores each time makes you more familiar with the prices so you can estimate your bill as you write your grocery list, compare ads and get your coupons ready.

Have a great day!

Feb 23, Using Your Crockpot/Slow Cooker

Here are a couple of tips when using your slow cooker; 1st crockpots won't brown your meat like when it's cooked in a skillet or oven. So if you want your meat to look browned, brown your meat in a skillet using non-stick cooking spray before adding it to your slow cooker. The 2nd tip, when using the crockpot once you have added all your ingredients, don't remove the lid off the food, if you do you will need to extend your cooking time because taking the lid off the crockpot causes the crockpot to loose a a lot of the cooking heat. So give your meal a good stir once all the ingredients are in the crockpot and then wait to stir your meal again once you are ready to serve it. Check out the Cook at Home pages for more tips and recipes. Have a great day!

With the economy the way it is, it's hard sometimes to think about putting money in a retirement account. But don't let it keep you from saving for your retirement whether it's many years away or a few years away. Perhaps until you feel more comfortable with the economy have your retirement account set up so that your money is into a savings oriented retirement plan. This way you are still saving towards your retirement and earning interest on your money. when the economy turns around and it will, then you can always change part or all of your retirement plan into the higher earning plans. So start saving for your retirement now, you'll be glad you did. Have a great day!

Feb 5, Cooking at Home Tip and Recipe

Not only does cooking at home save money but is healthier. Using your slow cooker is a wonderful way to make cooking at home easier. You put dinner on in the morning and by the time you get home from a day of working, whether outside the home or in the home, dinner will be ready. The last thing we want to do after working all dayis come home and work some more. I like to cook but I also like to come home and relax after working all day. You can save any leftovers and have them for lunch the next day or vacumn pack the leftovers and save them for lunch or dinner another night. Check out the cook at home page for crockpot recipes. Try the pulled pork recipe below for sandwiches or to top on pasta. Enjoy! Have a great day!

Saving Money Makes Cents which turns into dollars!!!

****************

Pulled Pork

Pork Roast (you determine the size)
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1 can (approx 10 oz) Condensed Onion Soup or 1 package of Onion Soup Mix (adding 1 1/2 cups water if you use the soup mix)
2 or 3 Tbls. Brown Sugar - packed
Brown your roast in skillet in small amount of olive oil. Mix the rest of the ingredients together, put small amount in the bottom of your crockpot. Add browned pork to the crockpot and pour the rest of the mix over the pork. Put cover on the crockpot and cook it on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and flakes apart. Before serving shred the pork and mix shredded pork with the sauce. Serve on your favorite rolls or over cooked pasta. Short on time instead of making your sauce from scratch use your favorite bbq sauce instead. Enjoy!

Jan 24, Preparing for Taxes tip

Do you itemize deductions on your taxes. This week take some time to think about and make a list what items you may have for your itemized deductions, such as child care, mortgage, doctor bills, work related expenses and so on. You should have received your tax booklets by now if not. Now that you have them how about running an estimate of what your taxes will be again, with current tax tables. Preparing a little each week will make your tax season go much smoother. Remember if you have money coming back, consider starting that savings account with it.
Jan 12, Start Preparing Now - Tip 2

Did you estimate what your taxes may be come April 15th? Hopefully it won't be much if any, but if it is, the next tip is to figure out how many paychecks you have between now and then and divide the amount you may owe by the number of paychecks you'll receive between now & April 15th. If your paid weekly you have about 12 weeks save, if your paid bi-weekly you will have about 6 paychecks, ect. Next take what your estimated tax will be and divide that amount by those paychecks, that will be the amount you will need to save each paycheck. It will be so much easier to save this way than to wait until the last minute and wonder how to come up with the money. The great thing about this is that once your taxes are actually done you may find out that you may not need all that you are saving and will have money to take care of something else, perhaps pay down a bill or start an <A HREF="http://www.saving-

Jan 11, Creating a Financial Plan (Budget)

Start off this year by reviewing your budget/financial plan or if you don't already have a budget/financial plan putting one in place. A budget helps to make sure your bills are paid and see where your money is going. The 1st step in creating your budget is to write down what money you have coming in such as your paychecks, alimony or any other income. Put down how often you receive these monies. Next write down your monthly bills, the amounts and day of the month they are due. You may need to create a few categories, like monthly bills, quarterly bills (bills paid every 3 or 4 months) and then yearly bills. We'll talk a little more about using these lists in the near future.

Have a great day!

I know, I know, it's not time yet! But tax time will be here before you know it. So why not start now and be ready for it. Alot of folks will get money back, but if you are one of the folks that have to pay in each year, start saving now, and do a little each week & be ready. The first thing to do is estimate how much you may have to pay the IRS. Simply take your last paycheck for 2009 and prepare an EZ1040 form. You can get these off the IRS.gov site. By doing this step now and seeing if you'll owe anything you can budget a little each paycheck to put into a savings account so this will help out when April 15th gets here.
Did you make a resolution? Many resolutions come and go. If you make a resolution this year, start with something small...If your goal is to loose weight, don't pay for a gym membership unless you know for sure you'll go on a regular basis...instead make it your goal to walk or exercise at home for 5 minutes a day and then perhaps increase it by 5 minutes each week until you're up to 30 minutes or more ... remember start small and build up. What about saving money, I know how hard it can be to save money, but again start small... If you can't even afford to save $5 from each paycheck how about starting with $1 then each pay check and then increase that by another dollar every month or two... before you know it you'll see how easy it is to save and how it will add up. You could also use your <A HREF="http://www.saving-money-makes-cents.com/coupon-

Hope everyone had as nice a Christmas as we did. New Years is just around the corner. Boy how time flies.

Do you make a New Years Resolution? How about making a simple resolution to start at least one or two savings accounts and make it a goal to get rid of at least one debt.

Maybe with one of the savings accounts put all of your coupon savings in it. So if you use 3 $1 coupons when shopping put that $3 savings into a savings account. If you receive a rebate back on an item, deposit that rebate right into the savings account. How about putting all your change into a jar and once you have several dollars in it, weekly or monthly put that change into the savings accounts. By using one or more of these money saving ideas there will be no out of pocket money and you can start one or two savings accounts.

The 1st and most important savings account you should have would be your emergency savings and the 2nd savings account? How about starting a Christmas or Holiday savings account. Start now and you'll be surprised how much you'll have saved by next Christmas and how quickly your emergency fund will grow. Who knows you may be so pleased seeing how easy it is to save you may include these in your budget to make them grow quicker. Have a great day!
