Cake in a Mug #1 and Cake in a Mug #2 Gift Jar Recipes

Cake in a Mug #1

Ok so this is not a gift jar recipe, but a fun mug recipe. I put it here because I thought it would make a great gift idea. This recipe came from a friend, I modified it slightly, once I tried it. Hope you enjoy it.

3 Minute Microwave Chocolate Cake in a Mug

4 Tbl flour
3 Tbl sugar
2 Tbl cocoa
1 egg
3 Tbl milk
2 Tbl oil (I used olive oil)
1 - 2 Tbl chocolate chips (optional, I used white choco chips)
Small splash of vanilla extract
Pinch baking powder
and 1 large microwave safe coffee cup

Mix all the dry ingredients together in the coffee mug (make sure your coffee cup is microwave safe) and mix well. Then add the egg and mix well, add oil and milk, mix well again, then add your chocolate chips and vanilla and mix one last time. (I mixed the ingredients together as listed above in a bowl and then added the mixture to the mug). Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes (experiment with the time). You'll notice the cake rising over the top while it's cooking but once the microwave stops the cake will go back down. Let your cake & mug cool for a bit and tip it out onto a plate if you wish. Top your mug cake with a little chocolate sauce or ice cream or whatever you desire. This recipe is from CS

When my friend gave me the recipe it said at the end "Why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!" LOL so true. Have fun and enjoy!

Some more tips for this mug cake: You don't need to grease the inside of the mug, there is enough oil in the mix to keep the cake from sticking. If your watching your sugar intake substitute the regular sugar for a sugar substitute, which is what I did. I also only put about 1/2 of the chocolate chips in the mix.

This would make a great gift for a family, give a set of mugs with the mix put in baggies and put in each mug, add the recipe and some ribbon and what a fun family gift. What about taking a boxed cake mix (see next recipe) and splitting it up into mugs adding nuts, choco chips or dry pudding mix. Try some of these different varieties and see what you like best. What can you think of.

Cake in a Cup #2 Mix

1 box Cake Mix (your favorite flavor)
1 4 oz Package Instant Pudding (a flavor to complement your Cake mix or try mixing different flavors)

Mix the cake mix & pudding mix together. Put 1/2 cup of the mixture into a baggie. Place the baggie into a microwave safe coffee cup and give along with the following recipe.

Cake in a Mug

1 pkg Cake in a Cup Mix
1 egg (or if you want just use the egg white)
1 Tbl. Vegetable Oil
1 Tbl. Water

Either in the coffee cup or a small mix the above ingredients and mix well. If mixed in a small bowl, spray mug with vegetable spray and then pour mixture into coffee cup and microwave for 2 minutes on high. Let cool slightly and serve warm with ice cream or add your favorite cake topping. Enjoy!
